What is Pilates?

Joseph Pilates developed his method of “Contrology” back in the 1920’s. He viewed fitness in a holistic way, focusing on the entire body working synergistically. He created a series of exercises to strengthen not only the physical body, but also the mind and spirit. He was way ahead of his time.
The Pilates Method, as it is now known, is a full body workout that strengthens from the inside out. By working through a unique series of exercises in accordance with the Pilates Principles, you will be physically and mentally challenged. You will discover your “core” (deep abdominals, pelvic floor, diaphragm and back) and develop greater body awareness. The focus is on correct technique, not excessive repetition, which will significantly improve your posture, balance, flexibility and strength.
You will achieve your optimal health as you create a sense of harmony between mind and the body.

Pilates Mat classes are now on the Central Coast at Hamlyn Terrace. Pilates Mat classes are suitable for all levels including beginners.  You will do a series of exercises on mats where you will experience a total mind-body connection that will strengthen your core.  As you learn about the principles of the Pilates Method you will improve body awareness and train your body to move more efficiently.  You will progress with new challenges each week. If you have any injuries or special needs, please call to discuss whether these classes are suitable for you.
